Giuseppe Meazza Stadium was the place where AC Milan got a visit from a dangerous Atalanta in Serie A. We got tonight’s player ratings.

AC Milan had a complicated visit from Atalanta on Saturday for a new Serie A match in San Siro. Gian Piero Gasperini’s boys are slowly going back to the level of performance from the previous two seasons and tonight was ideal to confirm their good moment. Beating the Serie A leader in their own stadium is a feat that very few clubs can do these days.

Gasperini showed his intentions from the first minute of the game by dominating the ball and the spaces on the pitch. The first goal came before the half-hour mark from Atalanta, who completely deserved to score. Cristian Romero connected a precise cross from left flank by Gosens with a beautiful header. The scoreline remained like this until the break, but Atalanta’s dominance was too great to ignore.

Gasperini beats Pioli in every aspect.

The second half came with more ball possession from Atalanta and a dangerous situation for AC Milan at their own stadium. Kessie committed a penalty early in the second half that gave Ilicic the chance to score the second goal for Atalanta from the spot. With these two goals as an advantage, the Rossoneri never showed signs of getting any type of reaction.

Quite the opposite, Atalanta kept dominating even more as time went by in San Siro. Duvan Zapata sealed the smashing victory with one of his signature solo goals after a counter-attack. This defeat still leaves AC Milan at the top of Serie A but it gets the competition slightly closer to them.
