AC Milan started the new league campaign with a commanding display, and Stefano Pioli liked what he saw on the pitch from his team.

It marked two wins out of two for AC Milan in the 2020/21 season when they beat Bologna 2-0 on Monday night.

The Rossoneri recorded a win with the exact same scoreline over Shamrock Rovers in the second Europa League qualifying round last week in their first competitive outing of this season.

Two strikes from Zlatan Ibrahimovic at 35th and 51st minute saw his side pick up from right where they left off last season in Serie A.

Milan saw their unbeaten streak extended to 15 games across all competitions after the full-time whistle at San Siro.

Stefano Pioli suggests his side are yet not quite at the levels he expects from them but are moving in the right direction to reach there.

“When a team is in good shape mentally, the legs and body go along with the mind,” Pioli told Sky Sport Italia.

“We did well against a very aggressive, intense opponent, and I thought up until the second goal we were doing very well, creating chances and pressing. There are areas where we need to improve once we’ve taken the lead.

“The side plays with confidence, can grit its teeth under pressure and fight hard. The tactical mechanisms are working well.”
