AC Milan boss Stefano Pioli has given his verdict on Fikayo Tomori after the defender recently joined the Rossoneri on loan.
Stefano Pioli admits it will take time for Fikayo Tomori to settle in new surroundings and also reveals he didn’t sleep after Milan’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of Atalanta.
The Rossoneri signed the 23-year-old from Chelsea on loan with a 30m option to buy at the end of the season.
Tomori failed to get minutes at Chelsea and joined the Rossoneri who are on a quest to end Juventus’ decade-long dominance of the Serie A.
The England international has only trained twice with Milan and Pioli has called for patience with the defender.
“Tomori is a very intelligent and curious lad, he comes from a different football, the language is a barrier, my English is good but not great, but he pays attention and many of his teammates speak good English,” Pioli told Milan TV.
“He has interesting qualities and characteristics but he’s only trained twice with us and will take a bit longer for him to settle in completely.”
Milan suffered their second league loss of the season by a 3-0 score-line to Atalanta over the weekend.
Pioli reveals it was back to the drawing board for himself and his players after that defeat.
“I didn’t sleep because I re-watched the game and because I believe in my job communicating with the team the morning after is very important.” he continued.
“I usually don’t sleep much after games, whether we win or not because I think being able to say the right things to the team is what matters”
“We don’t have much time and play a lot, so the communication needs to be immediate. I made my considerations and shared them with the team the morning after.”
