Now that Messi is a PSG player, Paul Pogba’s future has been directly affected as he planned to possibly leave Manchester United.
Now that Leo Messi is a PSG player, we need to talk about how he directly affects Paul Pogba’s future. Before this major transfer happened, the French midfielder was seriously thinking about leaving Manchester United. He decided that signing a new contract wasn’t inside his plans and he had several options to choose from. One of those options was Real Madrid, but PSG was always the club that offered him the most. Pogba’s contract expires during the summer of 2022, which left him with no option but to either leave for free or negotiate to sign for a new club this season.
As the news about Messi kept progressing, the player started having conversations with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. According to the Norwegian manager, the results were positive from these talks. Everything points at Paul making a transcendental decision for his professional career during the summer transfer window. Unless Florentino Perez makes a last-minute decision, Pogba might be set to sign a new contract with United. This is reported by Sky Sports.
PSG steps down from the race for Pogba.
It was obvious that after what they decided to pay Leo Messi, signing more players this summer would be impossible. Don’t’ get us wrong, PSG just completed the most outrageous transfer window by a single club in modern football history. They got Donnarumma, Wijnaldum, Ramos, and Messi on free transfers. However, they agreed to pay elevated salaries to all of them. If they wanted Paul Pogba, they had to make a major effort to pay a transfer fee but they decided against it.
The only way the French midfielder could go to PSG without violating the Financial Fair Play rules is a trade between both clubs. But the Red Devils are obviously more keen on keeping Paul than letting him leave. In fact, these two clubs are the ones that signed the best players during this transfer market. All Pogba has left is making the decision to stay at a club where he will have a chance to fight for all the titles this season. Not bad for a player who wanted to leave less than a year ago.
