The Cameroon international hit back at the criticism aimed at Alejandro Garnacho for a social media post he made of him.
Andre Onana has slammed the fall-out caused by a social media post from his Manchester United teammate Alejandro Garnacho.
The post featured two gorillas alongside a picture of Onana. Garnacho shared it after Onana’s penalty save in a Champions League match against Copenhagen on Tuesday. The goalkeeper’s stop ensured United of a 1-0 victory.
Garnacho promptly deleted the post after being informed of the possible racial implications. The English FA is currently investigating the matter.
In defense of the 19-year-old, Onana took to Instagram and shared his true perspective of the post, associating it with power and strength.
“People cannot choose what I should be offended by,” the goalkeeper wrote.
“I know exactly what [Garnacho] meant: power and strength. This matter should go no further.”
The FA has initiated an investigation into the incident and has requested Garnacho’s views. Depending on the outcome, the winger may potentially face a suspension if found in breach of the FA’s regulations.
