Valencia have confirmed a preliminary agreement is in place with Leeds United to sell Rodrigo Moreno in a reported €30m deal.

A surprise Premier League return beckons for Rodrigo, who formerly played for Bolton, after Valencia announced a deal is in place to sell him to Leeds this summer.

The global financial implications from the coronavirus pandemic have left the Spanish club struggling. It’s forced them to sell players like Ferran Torres, Dani Parejo, and Francis Coquelin to balance the books.

Reports then emerged recently claiming that Leeds had approached Valencia to sign Rodrigo, with a reported €30m offer.

The newly promoted Premier League outfit even sent officials over to Spain on Tuesday to seal the deal and were ultimately successful, with Valencia confirming a preliminary agreement for an undisclosed fee.

“Valencia have reached a preliminary agreement with Leeds United this Tuesday for the transfer of footballer Rodrigo Moreno, at the expense of completing all the documentation and other formalities and passing the mandatory medical examination,” read a statement on the club’s website.

“Valencia want to thank him for his commitment and effort over the last six seasons – in which he has played a total of 220 games, scored 59 goals, and helped to win a cup title. Valencia wish him all the best in this new stage of his sports career.”

Should the reported €30m price tag be correct, it would result in an immense loss for Valencia. It was only a year ago they demanded €60m for Rodrigo amid interest from the likes of Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

Leeds, on the other hand, have now made six signings this summer ahead of their highly anticipated return to the Premier League.

Marcelo Bielsa’s side will begin their campaign away to Premier League champions Liverpool on September 12.
