Failing to impress after moving to the Spanish capital in a big-money move, the Serbian striker has been sent back to where he came from.
Real Madrid have confirmed Luka Jovic has completed a temporary switch to Eintracht Frankfurt.
Jovic will see out the remainder of the current campaign in Deutsche Bank Park and will return to the Santiago Bernabeu at the end of this season, with no option to buy included in the loan deal.
The striker’s switch comes after a frustrating period at Real Madrid as he made just five appearances across all competitions in 2020-21.
In his first 32 games for the La Liga champions, he could find the net only twice – a surprising tally for someone who proved to be one of the most prolific strikers during his initial spell at Frankfurt.
Jovic has now returned to familiar surroundings as he hopes to rediscover the form that saw him score 27 times in 48 games in 2018-19.
“Luka didn’t have an easy time in Madrid recently. It is important for him to get back on track. It was his great wish to return to Eintracht,” Frankfurt sporting director Fredi Bobic said at the player’s unveiling on Thursday, via the club’s official website.
“Luka can use the next few months to find his way back to old strength in a familiar environment. Real Madrid know that he is in good hands with us and that he can develop here.
“And it is clear to us that we have another excellent option in the storm center.”
