The Ligue 1 champions have confirmed the dismissal of their head coach following an underwhelming start to the season.

Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed Thomas Tuchel’s dismissal as manager but have given no information yet on his replacement.

Reports emerged on Christmas Eve claiming that sporting director Leonardo had fired Tuchel less than 24 hours after a convincing 4-0 win over Strasbourg in Ligue 1. The decision came four months after the German had led them to their first-ever Champions League final.

Now PSG have confirmed Tuchel’s departure almost a week later with an official statement.

“I would like to thank Thomas Tuchel and his staff for everything they brought to the club,” said PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi in the statement.

“Thomas has put a lot of energy and passion into his work, and of course we will remember the good times we shared together. I wish him the best for his future.”

Tuchel replaced Unai Emery as head coach in 2018 and won a superb six domestic titles. The 47-year-old collected 96 wins in his 127 games in all competitions during his time at Paris, including 11 draws and 20 defeats.

Last season, his second in charge, was his best. Not only did Tuchel lead PSG to their first Champions League final, but he also won a domestic quadruple of Ligue 1, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, and the Trophee des Champions.

But an inconsistent start to the 2020/21 campaign, along with rumors of an uneasy relationship with the PSG board, has seemingly ended his stay.

Former Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino, who played for PSG between 2001 and 2003, is the favorite to replace Tuchel.
