Manchester City have signed 23-year-old defender Ruben Dias from Benfica on a six-year deal in a deal worth about £65m in total.
Ruben Dias has become the third summer signing for Manchester City after completing a £62m move from Benfica with a possible £3m extra in add-ons.
The 23-year-old defender joins the Citizens on a six-year contract.
As part of the same deal, Nicolas Otamendi also completed a move in the opposite direction to Benfica in a deal worth £14m.
Dias says he cannot wait to work with City boss Pep Guardiola, a man he is certain will help him develop his game.
“To have the opportunity to join a club like Manchester City is a fantastic opportunity for me and one I couldn’t turn down,” he said as per the club’s official website.
“Their success speaks for itself. They have been the dominant team in England over the last few years, playing an attacking brand of football which I feel suits my own game.
Dias added: “It is really exciting to be part of such a talented squad and to play for a world class manager like Pep Guardiola, who has a proven track record of developing young players like myself.”
“I believe I can improve here, at a club whose ambitions match my own and I will give everything to be successful and win titles.”
Dias is expected to partner either of Aymeric Laporte/Nathan Ake in the heart of City’s defence.
The defender has won 19 caps for Portugal and will join up with international team-mates Bernardo Silva and Joao Cancelo at the Etihad Stadium.
Dias could make his City debut when his side travel to Elland Road for a crunch clash against Leeds on Saturday.
