After long weeks of negotiations, Chelsea have finally completed the signing of Leicester City star Ben Chilwell.
The Blues are believed to have struck a £50m deal to bring Chilwell to Stamford Bridge.
Frank Lampard has long considered the 23-year-old an ideal long-term solution at left-back. That position has posed a major problem for the Chelsea boss since his arrival.
Chelsea have been tracking Chilwell since before January but had reservations over the asking price.
Leicester initially hoped to command a fee in the region of £80m, similar to what Manchester United paid for Harry Maguire last summer.
After long talks, Chelsea and Leicester were able to come to an agreement for way less.
Chilwell has signed a five-year contract with the Blues and is expected to be a starter under Lampard.
“I am delighted to be joining Chelsea at this very exciting time for the club,” Chilwell told the club’s website.
“I’m looking forward to being a part of this young, dynamic squad led by Frank Lampard as we challenge for honours next season. I can’t wait to get started and hopefully it won’t be long before we’re playing in front of the Chelsea fans at Stamford Bridge.”
It’s been a busy summer for the Blues so far. He becomes the latest adition after Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner. Elsewhere, Chelsea are closing in on another marquee signing in Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
