Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo is worried football may never be the same again if another halt is allowed to take place.

Nuno Espirito Santo has warned the Premier League might not ‘recover’ again if football is forced to go on a halt for a second time.

Last season, the coronavirus pandemic forced the Premier League and leagues across the globe to go on a break starting sometime around March.

Nuno Santo is hoping that won’t happen again as he believes a repeat of that would hasten the arrival of a European Super League and could long-lasting damage to ‘smaller clubs’.

The Wolves boss claims the game has a ‘moral obligation’ to continue despite the rising number of Covid-19 cases in the UK. Fellow managers Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce are some of the Premier League coach to have voiced concern over games being played in the current situation.

‘I am afraid that if the decision is to stop, football as we know now would not be the same,’ said Nuno as per the Guardian.

“This is my biggest fear.”

“The schedule would go crazy, it would be impossible to even finish the league season and think about the European Championships so my feeling is that if we stop everything would change and a new [version of] football would come.”

“There would probably be a Super League, there would probably be other competitions, and then it would be a matter of which clubs will survive. It’s a tough decision to make.”

While Nuno struggles to find a balance ground for his point made, he remains certain there would be more harm than good done if football comes to another halt.

“I don’t know what is better,” he continued.

“What I’m afraid of is, if the decision is to stop, football we know now will not be the same. This is my biggest fear. The schedule will go crazy and it’ll be impossible to finish the league and think about the Euros.”

“We cannot move forward and go back to a normal situation. The virus and pandemic are affecting things a lot, the increase of cases is growing in a scary way. This is what my main concern is..”

“If you have a crisis the strong will survive – what about the rest? My personal view, when I have an awareness of what’s going around, you will not find the same model we have now.”
