Amid all the recent covid-19 outbreaks, Frank Lampard shares his thoughts on whether or not the Premier League should take a break.

Frank Lampard says he remains a big lover of football but the health of players and staff must come first over anything.

After a quiet start to the season, the past few weeks have seen a rise in numbers of covid-19 cases among Premier League clubs.

Just recently, the Manchester City vs Everton game had to be called off due to a covid-19 outbreak. Ahead of the Chelsea vs City game, Guardiola also revealed five of his players will be out of action due to covid-19.

Lampard has also confirmed Chelsea have returned some positive tests but none involves a member of the playing squad.

Sam Allardyce recently voiced out his concerns on health and safety while adding that the Premier League should consider taking a break.

Lampard has also spoken on the matter and admits health should be the priority over anything.

So far, the Chelsea vs City game hasn’t been postponed and there are no indications it would happen.

Lampard said via the club’s website: “I haven’t been given the chances of the game being postponed. I’m just aware of the situation and at the moment the game is on.”

“We know that Manchester City had some positives within their training ground. We’ve had a couple ourselves, but not on the playing staff. That’s the current situation.”

Asked whether it was important that football continues for the morale of the nation, Lampard said: “I am not sure about that one. I understand it. I certainly love football and if you love football you love watching lots of games at home.”

“I think safety has to be paramount. When you look at our squad, I think the fact I said we have a couple of staff who have tested positive means that they are people who are working within our bubble who have babies, parents, friends, grandparents, who they see when they come home from work.”

“We are in an environment with Covid more contagious than we previously thought it was. I think safety is paramount as opposed to keeping the nation’s spirits up.”

“I know it is not the nice thing to say, but these are tough times for everyone and we enjoy watching our football but health and safety has to come first.”

We all want the beautiful game of football on our screens every weekend but just maybe Frank Lampard might have a point.
