After becoming a mainstay at Burnley, Jeff Hendrick let his contract expire on June 30 and now joins the Magpies on a free transfer.

With funds on the short side, Newcastle United’s purse strings have constricted severely. Steve Bruce is following the company line.

Bruce is looking in the bargain basement. He has added out of contract Jeff Hendrick. The central defender made 122 Premier League appearances in four years at Turf Moor.

Hendrick let his contract expire with the Clarets and has been looking for new employers ever since. He joins the Magpies and reinforces a dwindling backline.

The 28-year-old was pleased to finally find new employers. Hendricks pointed at the club’s iconic status in English football and shared the ambitions he harbors.

“It’s a massive club and playing over the years, going to the stadium, it’s one of the best stadiums to play in, so I just want to get playing there,” talkSPORT quoted Hendrick.

“I’ve had over 100 games in the Premier League but I want to keep going and keep improving with a different team. It’s going to be different for me, the demands with the bigger stadium, the crowd, how big the club is, so I’ve got to take that on and keep pushing myself and striving to get better.”

“I’m looking forward to it – I can’t wait.”
