Ahead of Napoli’s latest game, the Nigerian striker earned more praise from his manager and comparisons with two legends in the game.

Victor Osimhen reminds Luciano Spalletti of AC Milan legends Marco van Basten and George Weah.

These comparisons came in light of Osimhen’s brilliant start under the Napoli manager. Since Spalletti took charge in July, the Nigeria international has managed nine goals – including five goals in Serie A – and two assists in only 12 games.

His progress this season has drawn praise from several key figures in Italy, and more will probably follow.

But comparisons with Van Basten, a Dutch three-time Ballon d’Or winner, and three-time African Footballer of the Year Weah, who is only the player from the continent to win the Ballon d’Or, has to be one of the biggest compliments Osimhen has received so far.

“He reminds me of Marco van Basten, even if he is more technical. Victor is young and can improve, he will certainly reach those levels there,” said Spalletti.

“He also reminds me of Weah. He is probably less technical, but equally strong in terms of quality.”

After returning to training, Osimhen has made the Napoli squad to face Hellas Verona in Serie A on Sunday.
