Julian Nagelsmann has failed to provide assurances over Dayot Upamecano’s future at RB Leipzig beyond the upcoming season.
In an attempt to shoo away potential suitors for one of their prized assets, RB Leipzig renewed Dayot Upamecano’s contract through to 2023 in July.
A prominent figure in the Leipzig team that enjoyed a fairy-tale Champions League campaign and finished third in Bundesliga, Upamecano had forged his reputation as another exciting French prospect in 2019/20.
European powerhouses were quick to take note of his talents, with the right-footed central defender getting linked to the likes of Arsenal, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, and Real Madrid.
The 21-year old, after making his first senior international appearance in France’s 1-0 win over Sweden on Saturday, himself confessed that he is on the radar of several clubs and is even in contact with a few of them.
Upamecano’s manager has now cast further uncertainty over the player’s future suggesting that he could leave the Red Bull Arena next summer.
“He [Upamecano] will be here for the season. I’m sure about that,” Julian Nagelsmann told ESPN.
“As for the future, I’m not sure as he is very talented. Lots of clubs will want to buy – next season it could be real that he leaves the club. But this season he will stay.”
