Jose Mourinho says the Tottenham hierarchy are aware of the need to sign a striker to play alongside Harry Kane.

Jose Mourinho is confident Tottenham will grant his wish of a partner for Harry Kane.

Spurs have added midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, goalkeeper Joe Hart and right-back Matt Doherty to their squad since finishing sixth in the Premier League last season.

A number of attacking players have been linked with Spurs during the close season. The likes of Patson Daka and Arkadiusz Milik of Salzburg and Napoli respectively.

Mourinho spoke on the importance of bringing in a player to complement Kane, rather than playing as back-up to the star striker.

“Yes, I want and I need a striker, but I want to make it very clear, the club knows I need a striker and they also want a striker,” he said as quoted by Football Daily.

“Are we going to get one? I honestly believe so. For the balance of the team, the team needs it.

“I know we have one of the best strikers in England. We want a striker that can play with Harry Kane, and not have the feeling of being back-up.

“A striker that can give us more than we have and that isn’t just to support us but to play with Harry.”

Kane spent a decent amount of last season on the sidelines but still managed to bag 18 Premier League goals.

Perhaps a strike partner upfront could even help him flourish all the more.

Spurs begin their Premier League campaign with a home game against Everton on Sunday.
