Jose Mourinho was in no mood to talk about the late VAR drama which cost Tottenham a win against Newcastle on Sunday.
Jose Mourinho was frustrated at his team dropping two points late on against Newcastle United. He hinted that Spurs are unfairly targeted when it comes to authorities making decisions.
Tottenham led for most of the game and should have been out of sight, but a spate of missed chances left the Magpies a glimmer of hope, which was handed to them in stoppage time.
The VAR informed the referee that Eric Dier had handled in the box in the 95th minute. Upon a pitch-side inspection, a penalty was given despite Dier facing the other way at the moment of contact.
Callum Wilson scored from the spot to equalize Lucas Moura’s opener and nick a 1-1 draw. After the game, Mourinho refused to comment on the incident, not-so-subtly pointing out that he’d be fined if he said what he thought.
“We lost two points, but I’m not going to comment on it,” he said as quoted by talkSPORT.
When pressed on the decision not to punish Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles for a similar handball, Mourinho added: “I reacted during the game, but the game was finished and I don’t want to speak about it.”
“If I want to give some money away, I give it to charities, not the FA. So I prefer not to comment.
“It’s not for me to judge Newcastle’s performance. They did their job the best they could,” Mourinho continued.
“I think at half-time, [Steve] Bruce was super happy with the result at 1-0. He’s a very intelligent and experienced guy, a good friend, he knows football up and down.
“He knew at half-time it could be three or four nil, so he was very happy at half-time, and they got their point.”
