Tottenham thought they could take all three points away from their latest Premier League match, but Callum Wilson had other ideas.

VAR-related controversies have become rather quite common in the 2020/21 Premier League campaign, and the match officials yet again attracted most of the spotlight in Sunday’s game at Tottenham Hotspur stadium.

Spurs held a one-goal lead for almost the entirety of the match. It was Lucas Moura who handed them the lead at the 25th minute after a quick counter-attack from his side led by Son Heung-min, with Harry Kane also playing a huge part.

A few minutes into stoppage time, Andy Carroll’s header appeared to have brushed the arm of a Spurs defender. On close inspection by referee Peter Bankes, it was confirmed that the ball had indeed hit Eric Dier’s hand.

Dier, who could do nothing about that, was not at all culpable for the handball. Regardless, it was a penalty as per the rules and the referee did not hesitate to point to the spot.

Callum Wilson made no mistake as he squeezed his shot past Hugo Lloris, which also happened to be Newcastle’s first shot on target.

The match ended 1-1, with Jose Mourinho’s side failing to record their fourth consecutive victory across all competitions.
