The Spurs shot-stopper had only himself to blame after failing to record a clean sheet on Saturday, but his manager thinks otherwise.
Hugo Lloris is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League, according to Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho’s comments came after Lloris’s costly blunder in the 1-1 Premier League stalemate against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
Harry Kane had already put Tottenham on the front foot when Palace lined up to take a free-kick inside the final ten minutes of the match.
Eberechi Eze’s delivery was too hot to handle for Lloris as the World Cup-winning goalkeeper failed to hang onto the shot in difficult conditions, allowing Jeffrey Schlupp to poke home for the equalizer.
Spurs remain Premier League leaders but the gap between them and second-placed Liverpool has been reduced to just a single point.
Asked to comment on Lloris’s performance in his post-match press conference, Jose Mourinho refrained from blaming his No.1.
“My goalkeeper is the best goalkeeper in the Premier League. Period,” Mourinho said assertively, as per Football London. “So, I would never be critical of the best goalkeeper in the Premier League.”
“If I have to blame anybody I have to blame ourselves, the team. The ones that win, the ones that draw, and the ones that lose.
“We can look at it in two different perspectives. We have more points than three hours ago, so we add a point. But at the same time, you play to win three points, so if you get one, you lose two.”
