The Blues suffered a third defeat on the trot away from home after they put in a lackluster performance in the latest London derby.

Reflecting on his side’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, Mason Mount suggests Chelsea need to impose themselves right from the very beginning in a match.

Frank Lampard’s men were favorites to pick up all three points from their visit to the Emirates on Boxing Day but instead were swept aside by the home side who produced perhaps their best performance of the Premier League season so far.

It marked a third successive league defeat away from home for the Blues who had lost 2-1 and 1-0 in their visit to Wolves and Everton respectively.

A string of subpar displays has seen them lose much ground in the title race in recent weeks with Chelsea having fallen to the seventh position in the standings – nine points behind leaders Liverpool.

“We have to be harsh on ourselves. We can’t start a game like that and expect not to be 2-0 down at half-time,” Mount said to the club’s official website.

“It is a tough lesson and we need to learn that and we need to do better the next time.

“We are representing Chelsea, we’re a big club and we really need to look at ourselves as players and say that was not good enough. We know that it is a big London derby and we need to start the game way better than we did.”
