Chelsea star Mason Mount has reflected on a key decision from manager Thomas Tuchel that has helped shape his season so far.

Mason Mount has credited Thomas Tuchel for giving him that ‘motivation’ by axing him from the starting lineup for a couple of games.

The 22-year-old has arguably been Chelsea’s best player this season and has repaid that same form under the new management of Thomas Tuchel. His winning goal at Anfield against Liverpool earlier this month best highlights the previous statement.

Tuchel caused quite a stir among the Blues’ supporters after placing Mount on the bench for his first game in charge against Wolves. Given that the midfielder was the most used player under Frank Lampard, Chelsea fans struggled to understand that decision at the time.

However, the England international has explained that the decision perhaps did him some good.

“I’ve had that experience before,” said Mount as quoted by Daily Mail.

“I was on loan at Vitesse Arnhem when I was 18, 19. That first couple of months I didn’t play hardly at all.”

“I had that motivation and that fire to want to get into the team. The first game with the manager coming in, he went for a more experienced team.”

“I understood that and wanted to get back into the team, so that motivation and that fire that I have inside me came out.

“I really tried to push to get back into the team. It’s been brilliant. We are working very hard. We’ve had tough games in this last period but we have come through it. It’s exciting stuff, we continue to work hard. It’s been a great start.”

Mason Mount will be in contention to start against San Marino when England kick-start their World Cup qualifying campaign on Thursday.
