Anfield Road was the place for this crucial Premier League match between Liverpool and Chelsea. We have the player ratings.

Chelsea prolonged Liverpool’s nightmare today at Anfield Road after dealing another massive blow to a dismal campaign. The Reds simply can’t seem to catch a break from this negative dynamic that has been going on all season. Jurgen Klopp’s lack of center-halves is the main reason they just can’t seem to properly enjoy winning the title last season. Today, they were facing one of the most solid squads in the Premier League since Thomas Tuchel came to coach Chelsea.

The Blues are fantastic in the back and slowly finding their ideal players to play on the attack. Although Timo Werner is still struggling to get his rhythm, there are others who hit the ground running under the German manager. Mason Mount scored the only goal of the match with a spectacular solo effort during the first half. This was more than enough for Chelsea to sit back and protect their result.

The Reds are not the same from last season.

Today’s performance proves how important having full stands can become for a club like Liverpool. They could benefit from having all that support during such a complicated moment but the pandemic has been terrible for them. A squad that is nowhere near what it was last season is slowly leaving the Top Four and already looking at next season. It’s the perfect time to hit the reset button for the Reds, even if that means selling some of their best players.

As far as Thomas Tuchel’s Chelsea is concerned, they are finally living up to the expectations Roman Abramovich had from the start of the season. As they take on a Top Four spot, this squad is only starting what seems like a revival tour. All Tuchel needs is to find the ideal setting for his strikers to start scoring goals again. When that happens, the Blues have the potential to become unstoppable.
