Mason Mount admits Chelsea were beaten by a ‘better’ Leicester City side but insists the Blues could have put out a better performance.
Mason Mount was straight-forward in his assessment of Chelsea’s performance after their 2-0 defeat to Leicester City.
The Foxes were deserved winners and condemned Frank Lampard’s men to their fifth defeat in eight games.
Chelsea struggled to create clear opportunities throughout the match. Their best sniff at goal came when Timo Werner poked home from a free-kick late on. However, the goal was ruled for offside after a VAR review.
Mason Mount has been one of the stand-out performers for Chelsea of late. Despite the losing outcome, the midfielder perhaps showed the best fight of any Chelsea player on Tuesday night.
The 22-year-old admits Chelsea deserved to lose and is already looking forward to a better outing in their next game.
“We were beaten by the better side” Mount said in a post-match conference.
“We know they are a very good team and coming into the game we knew how tough it would be. They set up very well and sometimes you have to put your hands up and say they were better on the night.”
“They took their chances. Two goals before half-time affected us and makes it difficult when you’re coming out in the second half. When you’re clinical in front of goal you are going to win games. We had a couple but we didn’t score.”
“We are disappointed we didn’t win the game. We know we are better than that. We have to have a look at ourselves, look at how we played, see where we can improve and come back stronger next game.”
Regardless of their current struggles, Mount is confident they will pick up form soon and return to winning ways.
“We are on a learning curve. Every day we need to get better, on the training ground and when we play” he added.
“It takes time. We are definitely going to get there.”
“We are getting to know each other more and more, and hopefully by the end of this season we will be in a good place.”
