Lionel Messi’s exit would be a huge loss for Barcelona but it will eventually prove to be beneficial for the club, insists Luka Modric.

Real Madrid fans feared for the club’s immediate future upon learning that Cristiano Ronaldo put an end to his nine-year stay at the club in the summer of 2018.

Ronaldo left a mark so deep at Santiago Bernabeu that will probably never ever be matched- two La Liga, as many Copa del Rey, Supercopa de Espana, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup, and four Champions League titles while putting up a colossal tally of 450 goals in 439 games.

The Juventus forward’s exit did bring unwelcoming consequences as Real Madrid crashed out of the Champions League in a quite disappointing fashion while also lost the La Liga title race the very next season.

However, they did manage to bounce back in 2019/20 and clinched their record 34th La Liga title.

A player of similar status at FC Barcelona looks to be on his way out of the club. Lionel Messi’s future has become a subject of intense speculations as of late ever since he reportedly informed the club of his intention of leaving Camp Nou. Messi’s departure will undoubtedly be a disaster for Barca for he had been their most important player for over a decade now.

Luka Modric, however, has attempted to highlight the positives that would come out of the superstar footballer’s move away.

“It would be a huge loss, like when Cristiano left,” Modric told AFP. “But you can’t think about the past. It’s football and that’s it.”

“If it happens it will be a huge loss for the prestige of the league. But we need to go forward. Other players will become stars.

“When Cristiano left, the same thing happened; the life of Real Madrid went on without him and it will be the same for Barcelona and LaLiga without Messi.”
