The defending champions put their attacking prowess on display in their previous outing with the Japanese being one of the seven scorers.

Liverpool forward Takumi Minamino has expressed relief after having finally opened his Premier League goal account.

The Japan international found the back of the net after just 125 seconds to kick-start what was an utterly dominating performance by the Reds in the 7-0 thrashing of Crystal Palace last Saturday.

It marked the 18th Premier League appearance and 29th overall in the Liverpool shirt for the former RB Salzburg man who arrived at Anfield in December last year.

Finding consistent minutes in Jurgen Klopp’s star-studded line-up is always going to be hard for him but the 25-year-old suggests there’s more to come from him.

Minamino told the club’s official website: “A goal in the Premier League was what I really wanted to achieve.

“Rather than feeling happy about it, I think it took longer than I wished. But I am happy that I could contribute to the team’s victory.

“I wouldn’t say that I was disappointed with myself [for not scoring in the Premier League previously], but I always wanted to score as soon as possible. I also felt some pressure about it.

“I am happy that I finally scored, but I have only scored once, so I will work hard to score more.”
