The Gunners surrendered the top spot in the Premier League after a costly 3-1 home defeat to Man City.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta feels the team’s overall performance against Manchester City has strengthened his belief in his players.

Despite Bukayo Saka scoring a first-half penalty, Arsenal fell to a first home defeat of the season. They lost 3-1 to City after goals from Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish, and Erling Haaland.

The defeat dropped Arsenal behind City into second place in the Premier League. The two teams are equal on 51 points, with the latter ahead on goal difference. However, with one game in hand, Arteta’s side can still strike back by reclaiming the lead.

“I have more belief because I see a team that is going head to head with them,” said Arteta after the final whistle.

“We have to go to the next one in three days. We have another difficult game. But I have more belief in my players, yes.”

The 40-year-old Spaniard also conceded that mistakes cost Arsenal against City. The north Londoners spurned chances, while Takehiro Tomiyasu made a notable error in the build-up to De Bruyne’s goal.

Arsenal will next visit former manager Unai Emery and Aston Villa at Villa Park this Saturday in the Premier League.
