A series of events took place today for Leo Messi less than 24 hours after his infamous picture taken alongside PSG players in Ibiza.

Lionel Messi applied pressure to Joan Laporta with that infamous picture alongside several PSG players in Ibiza. As you all know, the free agent is currently enjoying the final days of his vacation in the Spanish party city. He was recently spotted enjoying life on a yacht with Luis Suarez and Cesc Fabregas’ families. But the real kicker came hours later at a nightclub in Ibiza. Angel Di Maria uploaded a controversial image on his Instagram account.

In the photo appear Messi, Neymar, Leandro Paredes, Marco Verratti, and Di Maria himself. One would think they are just enjoying themselves at a nightclub but the context makes the world think about the possibilities. Given that Messi is still a free agent, this makes any Barcelona supporter sweat and suffer over Leo’s future. After the Copa America final, we already saw the Argentine talking with Neymar and Paredes. But yesterday’s meeting took things to a whole other level. It created a ripple effect that offered massive results in less than 24 hours.

La Liga pays up and Laporta moves forward.

Not even a day after the now-infamous picture, two incredible things happened for FC Barcelona that will help Messi’s contract. First, Javier Tebas announced he is getting private investment to all La Liga clubs as aid due to the pandemic. A total of €2,7 billion for all the clubs but over €500 million for Barcelona and Real Madrid alone. With a total of €270 million for the Blaugranas, this was exactly what they needed in order to seal the deal for Messi.

This sped up the negotiations with the Argentine and several reports came after with the good news. Leo seems to have finally reached an agreement with the Catalan club. He will sign for the next five seasons with the option to leave after the second year if he wants. In the end, he will cut his salary in half when compared to his previous contract. The announcement is only hours away, according to various reliable sources in Catalonia. Barcelona is about to announce Messi’s new contract due to a photo.
