Jorge Messi revealed talks with Barcelona went ‘well’ and hinted his son Leo could stay at Camp Nou for one more season.

Jorge Messi arrived in Catalonia on Wednesday to begin talks with Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu over releasing his son from his contract.

Either side released no details at the end of the two-hour meeting, but reports in the Spanish press claimed they reached an impasse. However, it appears they made progress on Thursday.

Jorge has admitted for the first time that staying at Camp Nou for one more season is an option that he and Lionel are considering.

‘Yes’ he told Deportes Cuatro when questioned on whether his son could see out the rest of contract and then leave during a brief exchange.

The 62-year-old didn’t reveal any further details other than that the meeting with Bartomeu went ‘well’ before driving off his car.

While it’s not the most ideal solution, Messi staying for at least one more season does give Barcelona more time to convince him to commit to the club for perhaps the rest of his career.

Reports have stated that Bartomeu wishes to tie him down to a new two-year deal and won’t consider selling him at all.

Ronald Koeman, who has replaced Quique Setien as manager, is also keen for Messi to stay. And it looks the Dutchman just might get his wish, as chances of surprise exit grow smaller.

This revelation comes just a day after Jorge claimed chances of his son staying a Blaugrana were difficult.
