With Lionel Messi’s contract with Barcelona to expire next month, Mario Kempes has urged him to consider an exit from Camp Nou.
Mario Kempes has urged fellow Argentine Lionel Messi to consider moves to Manchester City, Bayern Munich or Paris Saint-Germain.
The six-time Ballon d’Or winner’s contract with Barcelona ends in June. No new deal has been signed, but talks between the player and club are reportedly underway for an extension.

Although Kempes, a 1978 World Cup winner for Argentina, believes his illustrious compatriot should consider an exit as he feels Barcelona’s chances of winning the Champions League again are ‘slim’.
“Messi is torn,” Kempes told Bild.
“He feels extremely comfortable in Barcelona. But he realizes that the chances of winning the Champions League again with Barca are slim.
“Recently, Barcelona were always prematurely eliminated due to the financial situation, the club is having great difficulty building a new top team.”
Should Messi decide to seek a move away from Barcelona, he won’t be short of lucrative offers.
“He would have to go to Pep Guardiola [at Manchester City], Paris Saint-Germain or FC Bayern,” Kempes said on where Messi could go next.
“These clubs either have the money or the players for great success.”
