According to a recent report, FC Barcelona and Leo Messi have taken the next step towards his contract extension with the Catalan club.

Leo Messi was still unable to decide whether he wanted to remain at FC Barcelona or not, but apparently that just changed. With all the positive changes that Joan Laporta brought with his new presidency, it seems Messi is finally convinced. His father finally sat down with the president in order to strike a deal that would allow Leo to remain at the club for a long time.

Laporta’s plan is to keep Messi even after he ends his professional career as a player, as a board member. The star still doesn’t know if he wants to become a manager once he hangs up his boots, but he does know he wants to continue tied to the club in some capacity. Once Leo decides to end his career, he can take many different steps towards a new chapter. But for now, the plan is to come up with the best possible plan for him to finish this incredible run in the most successful way possible.

What would convince Messi to stay?

According to Sport, the plan is for Laporta to offer Messi a contract that comes with some goals to reach. The Argentine repeatedly said he doesn’t care much about money as he does about a successful project. After Bartomeu left, he finally felt there was hope for the club to return to the old days of glory. Joan Laporta is doing everything in his power to bring as many great players as possible to play alongside Messi.

As he enters the final stage of his career at the highest level, he obviously wants to retire with at least another Champions League trophy under his belt. There are still no numbers on Leo’s contract, only the requests his father brought to the table. This negotiation will be long and kind of stressful but at least they already agreed to sit down with the president.
