The FC Barcelona captain entered both the club’s and Spanish league’s history books after the victory over SD Huesca.

Lionel Messi became the first player in La Liga history to score at least 20 goals in 13 consecutive seasons on Monday night.

The 33-year-old added another impressive accolade to his growing list in Barcelona’s 4-1 win over Huesca by scoring the club’s first goal and last goals, taking his tally for the season up to 21 goals in 25 games.

Messi has now reached the 20-goal mark in La Liga across each campaign since 2008/09. According to Opta, no other player in the Spanish league’s history has achieved this feat before now.

He also moved level with former teammate Xavi Hernandez for the most appearances in a Barcelona jersey on 767 matches. A club-record 661 goals and 290 assists, along with 34 trophies, have come his way. And with a potential domestic double up for grabs this season, Messi isn’t done yet.

Antoine Griezmann and Oscar Mingueza were Barcelona’s other two goalscorers in the victory over Huesca.

Ronald Koeman’s men now lie four points behind La Liga leaders Atletico Madrid ahead of the final 11 games. They’ll take a trip to Real Sociedad on Sunday night for their next match.
