With his Barcelona contract officially expired, Messi has been offered a hilarious deal by the ‘the worst football club in the world’.

Brazilian minnows Ibis Sport Club, aka ‘the worst football club in the world’, have made a hilarious contract offer to Lionel Messi.

The six-time Ballon d’Or winner is officially a free agent after his Barcelona contract expired on Wednesday. But while he is expected to stay at Camp Nou, the Ibis Sport Club chiefs tried their luck anyway.

The Blackbird uploaded a 15-year contract offer for Messi on Twitter that included six bizarre clauses.

  • 15-year contract, starting from July 1 2021.
  • Salary based on productivity (if he deserves it).
  • He cannot score many goals.
  • He cannot become a champion.
  • He cannot wear the No. 10 shirt (retired in honor of Mauro Shampoo).
  • He must swear three times in front of the mirror that Pele is much better than [Diego] Maradona.

Messi, who is currently participating in the Copa America with Argentina, has not responded to this supposed offer. That said, if he was to leave Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are reportedly his most probable destinations.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta, though, insists that ‘everything is on the right track’ regarding contract talks with Messi.

Why is Ibis Sport Club ‘the world’s worst club’?

The Brazilian side has long had a reputation for being football’s worst team amongst fans and journalists alike.

This reputation came to light between the 1970s and 1980s due to several defeats and was solidified with a winless run between 1980 and 1984 that lasted exactly three years and 11 months – a feat that made the Guinness Book of World Records.
