Felix and his brother Toni Kroos shared their views on the result of FIFA’s The Best awards that took place last week in Zurich.

Felix Kroos, who plays in Germany’s second tier, analyzed the results of the FIFA awards with his brother Toni on their weekly podcast Einfach mal luppen.

Toni Kroos and his brother both agree that Robert Lewandowski was rightly awarded the award for Men’s Player of the Year. However, the 29-year-old disagrees with FIFA on the choices for the top 3 candidates.

“Lewandowski deserves it, absolutely. But, for me, Messi doesn’t belong in the Top 3, because I don’t think he did well this year”.

Felix wasn’t the only one criticizing Leo Messi’s nomination. In fact, former Man Utd man Berbatov also slammed FIFA for this year’s shortlist.

Lionel Messi didn’t have a fantastic last season with Barcelona. Although the player still managed to score 31 goals for the club in 44 appearances, the team didn’t collect a single award. Despite this, the Argentinian still beat several highly-rated players for the spot in the shortlist, including PSG stars Neymar and Mbappe.

The brothers also commented on Jurgen Klopp’s victory over Bayern boss Hansi Flick. They believe both managers were strong candidates to take the award home.

“Obviously, both of them are great coaches, based on the successes they have both achieved. Klopp has also had a surprising year. You only have to look at the seasons they’ve enjoyed. At the end of the day, it’s not really that important”.
