‘Messi and Aguero can play alongside each other at City’

Lionel Messi will fit in seamlessly with compatriot Sergio Aguero at Manchester City, says ex-player Richard Dunne.

Lionel Messi will be the perfect dream signing for Manchester City if they can pull it off.

The impossible could yet be possible. La Pulga is seriously contemplating an exit from Barcelona.

Messi appears to be disillusioned with the running of the Catalan club at top level. He is seeking a new challenge elsewhere and reportedly sent in a transfer request earlier this week.

It remains to be seen how it ends but realistically, only a few clubs can afford a player of his calibre.

City are one of the few clubs that boast the financial muscle to accommodate a player like Messi. On top of that, they are looking the likely destination should the six-time Ballon d’Or winner choose to leave Spain.

A move to City also means a reunion of some sort for the little magician. Pep Guardiola will welcome his former protegee and Aguero also welcomes his international colleague.

Ex-City player Richard Dunne sees no reason why Messi and Aguero can not blossom together in club colours. In fact, it will be a dream signing for the Citizens.

Asked about Messi and Aguero at City, former club captain Dunne told Sky Sports: “They can play together, definitely. Messi plays in a deeper role than Aguero would normally, so he add something that little bit more special to Man City.”

“In terms of trying to win the Champions League. City have looked like they lack that little bit of experience in winning the competition, and who better to bring in than a person who’s won it four times?”

“He will help the club massively if he does come, and fitting him into the side won’t be a problem.”

“All the players will be desperate to try and play alongside him, and Pep used him previously at Barcelona by trying to find new formations to get him free, and on the ball, and he’ll try to do the same if he does come to City.”

“It would be a dream if Messi did come here, for all City fans, if he was in a City shirt. It’s a certain possibility now.”
