Los Blancos were unsuccessful in seizing their long-term target from the hands of PSG despite making multiple attempts this summer.

Paris Saint-Germain’s Kylian Mbappe will “play for Real Madrid one day or another”, insists Karim Benzema.

Real Madrid were heavily linked with the signing of Mbappe throughout the summer transfer window.

The La Liga giants were desperate to acquire the services of the 22-year-old forward as they reportedly submitted an eye-watering €220 million offer late in the window.

However, equally determined not to let go of their prized asset, Paris Saint-Germain turned down the offer in spite of the high risk of losing the player for free at the end of the season.

Los Blancos can now hold pre-contract discussions with their long-term target from January should he continue to reject contract extension offers from the Parisian club.

“He is a player who will play for Real Madrid one day or another,” declared Benzema, speaking to RTL.

“We get along really well and I would like him to be with me today in Madrid.”

Benzema was speaking after France’s 1-1 draw with Bosnia-Herzegovina in their World Cup qualifier on Wednesday.

“We would have liked to win this match there, in France, in front of our audience,” he added.

“In the first half, we made good moves, in the second half, with the red card, we fell back a little, which is normal when we play one less.”
