Rickie Lambert hopes Nike’s association with Liverpool and Kylian Mbappe could lead to a dream union, even though it seems ‘out of reach’.

Talk of Mbappe joining Liverpool someday is nothing new as the forward has spoken on his admiration for the club and its manager Jurgen Klopp in the past, prompting rumors of his move.

Hopes of seeing such a union, though, is probably out of Liverpool’s reach this summer. It’s no secret Mbappe won’t come cheap for anyone, which will prove a handicap for any club considering the coronavirus pandemic’s global financial implications. Even Real Madrid had to pull out recently.

But Lambert, who played for Liverpool in the 2014/15 campaign, hopes Nike’s links to Mbappe could make him a ‘marquee signing’ his old club someday.

The now-retired striker told talkSPORT: “You always dream, don’t you?

“I was thinking with Nike taking over, every time you take over a team, they always have a marquee signing.

“I was hoping Mbappe or something. But I think he is out of our reach, to be honest.”

Liverpool already do have superb attacking options in Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane, and Roberto Firmino.

“I would like to see Liverpool bring in at least one more forward to help with the goals, to help the front three and to give it a little bit more competition,” Lambert added.

Lambert isn’t the only retired player hoping his old club will sign Mbappe as Ronaldo Nazario recently backed Real Madrid.
