After eliminating Bayern Munich in the Champions League, both Mbappe and Neymar take the lead in the Ballon d’Or contest.
The Ballon d’Or contest is finally starting to smile upon Neymar and Kylian Mbappe this year, they just kicked Robert Lewandowski out of the race. Even though he’s been quite at the top of his game for the majority of the season, the Polish striker missing both games vs PSG was a decisive factor. He might win the Golden Shoe this season but the Ballon d’Or will definitely not go for him after Bayern’s elimination. The two players who are currently at the top of all the polls are Kylian Mbappe and Neymar, in that order.
After two outrageous performances at Camp Nou and Allianz Arena, the French forward proved he is ready to take on bigger challenges and be considered to win the Ballon d’Or this season. Ney has been injured for a large portion of the season but his last two performances were impressive. If he remains at this level for the rest of the campaign, he will definitely deserve a spot on the podium.
Is Kylian Mbappe a certain winner?
This will all depend on what Kylian Mbappe does during both the semifinal and the final. Traditionally, players who help their clubs win these crucial matches are the ones who win the Ballon d’Or. Also, we still have the European Championship ahead of us this summer. France has a great chance of winning the tournament as Brazil does the Copa America.
It all points to a Ballon d’Or contest where these two PSG stars will compete. But in terms of level and accomplishments, Kylian Mbappe has the upper hand over Neymar. On a side note, it’s funny how Real Madrid tends to sign the player who wins the Ballon d’Or in the same year and gets it as one of their own. Could this be the case with Kylian Mbappe?
