The teenage forward has found an incredible start to the new season at Allianz Arena.

Mathys Tel scored Bayern Munich’s winning goal in their 2-1 victory over Copenhagen on Tuesday. It was the Frenchman’s sixth goal after playing only 293 minutes across all competitions.

Bayern came close to loaning out Tel in the summer transfer window. But the 18-year-old is already establishing himself as a key substitute under Thomas Tuchel this season.

Speaking to L’Equipe, Thierry Henry hailed the young striker, saying: “I think you’ve been following what he’s been doing. Being involved in 8 goals while not having started any games except one in the cup is exceptional.

“It’s not easy to start games at Bayern, but also not easy to be subbed on before other big players like Thomas Müller. Mathys often comes in before him (Müller) and makes the difference in the few minutes he’s getting.”

Henry has called up Tel to France’s U21 squad for the first time ahead of their Euro 2025 qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina later this month. However, he is already on Didier Deschamps’ radar for a possible senior debut with Les Bleus.

“He has a very good efficiency compared to the game time he’s getting,” Deschamps said on Thursday.

“I hope he will get more game time and start games. What he’s doing is very interesting, this capacity of being efficient with limited game time.

“We’re attentive, but he still has steps to take. I’m aware there’s a lot of competition at Bayern. He’s making the best out of the time he gets on the pitch and is helping his team win games. I hope he’ll soon become a starter because he deserves it.”
