Ahead of tonight’s Champions League match, Marseille’s manager Andre Villas-Boas spoke about why the task of defeating Manchester City will be a tough one to achieve.

Manchester City have already secured their place in the Champions League Round of 16. However, Olympique de Marseille can only hope to achieve third place in the group and play the Europa League knockout stage. In order for that to happen, they are not dependent on themselves. Additional to needing a positive result against the Citizens, they must also hope Olympiacos doesn’t win against Porto.

At the pre-match press conference, Andre Villas-Boas spoke about his team’s chances of securing a spot at Europa League. The manager believes that City’s team changes won’t affect their performance.

“The problem is City’s B Team is very good as well. I’m obviously speaking about Mahrez, Bernardo Silva, Mendy, Torres, Phil Foden, Gundogan, Fernandinho, Dias, Garcia, Cancelo. The options are top level. The second team can conquer the Champions League”, said the Portuguese boss.

Andre Villas-Boas’s contact renewal is in the works.

The manager spoke today about his future at the French club. He confirmed that Marseille’s sporting director has begun talks with his agents in Lisbon. Although the club’s financial situation poses some difficulties, Villas-Boas has expressed to RMC Sport his desire to continue with the French-side.
