According to Andre-Villas Boas, Leeds United head coach Marcelo Bielsa is unworthy of a highly regarded nomination.

Marseille head coach Andre-Villas Boas has hit out against Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa. The latter has been nominated for The Best FIFA Coach Award. The Argentine was included in the five-man shortlist from the governing body of football. And it includes Real Madrid’s Zinedine Zidane, Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp, Sevilla’s Julen Lopetegui, and Bayern Munich’s Hansi Flick.

Bielsa guided Leeds for a return to the English top-flight from the Championship for the first time since 2004. Moreover, the Argentine’s team made a brilliant start to the fresh Premier League season. However, the Peacocks hang on in the middle of the table after the first nine games. But Villas-Boas urged that his achievements are nowhere near other deserving candidates.

“Bielsa? Bielsa has to win a prestigious trophy,” he told the media on Friday. “But he’s not among the best five coaches in the world in 2020. It’s a scandal. He won the Championship!”

He knows another worthy candidate.

In case you did not know, Bielsa reigned the frontiers of Marseille back in 2014-15. This means that Villas-Boas is possibly making a leap of faith as he risks provoking the club supporters. On top of that, he believes that Paris Saint-Germain boss Thomas Tuchel is a worthier nominee. It is known to all that both the Ligue 1 clubs have a fierce rivalry since birth.

“That Tuchel’s not in the top five coaches is a scandal,” he said. “FIFA is sleeping… Tuchel won four trophies and then got to the final of the Champions League.”

Villas-Boas has been fighting for the top four spots at Stade Velodrome this season. In addition, Marseille has been poor with their European tournaments during this course. On the other hand, Bielsa has received admiration from many with his strong start in England.
