Ace Football previews the Premier League match between Manchester City and Arsenal, and offers the latest betting tips, odds, line-ups, and team news.

It’s student versus mentor again as Mikel Arteta takes his Arsenal squad to the Etihad Stadium for a third meeting with Manchester City and Pep Guardiola, having recorded one win and defeat to date.

The two sides head into the clash eager to resume their campaigns on a winning note for different reasons. For City, three points are necessary as they languish down in 14th in the standings. While Arsenal, who have won three of their opening four games, hold hope of a return to the top-four this season.

In the past, City would have been expected to win this one quite comfortably. But while their recent head-to-head record in the Premier League certainly doesn’t favor them, Arsenal can take heart from Leicester City’s recent 5-2 thrashing of the hosts.

Manchester City Form & Stats

One win, one draw, and one defeat is all the Citizens have to show for their opening three games. It’s their worst start to a Premier League campaign since 2010/11, leaving them down in 14th-place in the standings.

Defeat on Saturday would not only hand City another immense blow, but it would mean they would’ve lost their opening two home games of a new league season for only the third time ever. In fact, the last time came in 1953/54 – exactly 66 campaigns ago.

Not helping matters is the losses of star playmaker Kevin De Bruyne, who sustained an injury while on international duty for Belgium, and striker Gabriel Jesus. Although there is a chance that Sergio Aguero could make a timely return to the fold.

That harrowing 5-2 loss to Leicester will, no doubt, play on every player’s mind for the Arsenal game. Pride is at stake here, with Pep Guardiola’s side needing to prove a point in this one. Victory not only offers them a chance to get things back on track, but it will also send a message loud and clear to their rivals.

Key Team Stats
  • Have won seven of their last eight games against Arsenal in all competitions.
  • Winless in their last two league games.
  • Over 2.5 goals in seven of their last eight league games.

Arsenal Form & Stats

Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea, and Saturday’s opponents City have all fallen to Arsenal since Mikel Arteta became manager in December 2019.

The Spaniard’s record against the Premier League’s top teams certainly is impressive to date. Although he’s yet to nail an away victory in four attempts (D1 L3) and won’t expect an easy time in Greater Manchester. In fact, Arsenal haven’t won away at the Etihad since January 2015 (P5 L4 D1).

The Gunners’ away form under Arteta in the Premier League hasn’t been particularly outstanding either, having recorded just three wins in 12 attempts (P12 D4 L5).

Although things are on the up for them, with a great sense of optimism having filled the club since the deadline day arrival of Thomas Partey. The big-money capture of the Atletico Madrid midfielder was a huge statement of intent and will make City wary if he plays on Saturday.

Key Team Stats
  • Lost just one of their last nine games in all competitions.
  • Over 2.5 goals in seven of their last eight league games.
  • Three wins in their last 12 away league games (D4 L5).
