Former Manchester City midfielder Trevor Sinclair has explained why his old club should pursue Tammy Abraham.

Trevor Sinclair would rather see Manchester City sign Tammy Abraham than break the bank to lure Harry Kane over to the Eithad.

With Sergio Aguero gone, City are on the lookout for a new attacker. The Citizens have reportedly made Kane a top target and aren’t afraid to splash the cash. There have been claims from The Sun newspaper of an alleged £160 million bid to Tottenham, something neither club has denied so far.

But Abraham, who could be available for around £40 million this summer, is the striker Sinclair favors.

“I still don’t understand why Tammy Abraham is not being given the opportunity,” he told talkSPORT about the Chelsea forward.

“For me, he’s a top Premier League striker, he’s proved that he’s a goalscorer, and the bits to his game that he might not have, surely Thomas Tuchel is a good enough coach to get him to do them for the team.

“I would have him at Manchester City. I think he’s a young enough player, and with Pep’s (Guardiola) coaching ability and with the teammates around him… I think he’s a top player, I really do.”

Abraham fell out of favor under Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel last season. And with the German on the lookout for a new striker, a summer exit could be his only way to play regular football.

Kane, meanwhile, is reportedly in favor of leaving Spurs to join a title-contending club. But the England captain will command a huge transfer fee, leaving Sinclair convinced City should go for Abraham.

Asked who he would choose out of the two strikers, Sinclair replied: “Tammy. It just goes against my principles of what I think about the club.

“I don’t want to see them going out there and spending that ridiculous amount of money to bring one player in, because I think that kills it then. You might as well pack up.”
