Manchester United are ready to challenge Liverpool for the signature of in-demand RB Salzburg forward Patson Daka, reports in England say.

Patson Daka was one of Salzburg’s revelations last season, racking up 27 goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.

The 21-year-old Zambian carried his team to their seventh successive title in the Austrian Bundesliga and has continued to impress during the pre-season campaign.

The pacey forward scored twice against Liverpool in a friendly match a few days ago, setting Jurgen Klopp and several Premier League sides on alert.

As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United, who missed out on signing Erling Braut Haaland last January, are now keen on bringing Daka to England.

Salzburg have been a factory of talents over the years, with the likes of Sadio Mane, Naby Keita, Kevin Kampl, and Takumi Minamino, among others, coming through the ranks at the Red Bull Arena.

Daka, who committed himself to the Austrian side until 2024 only last year, would command around £20million if he was sold.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been scouting Europe for potential attacking reinforcements and has already stepped up his pursuit of Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish.

Talks between the parties have intensified over the past couple of days, as the Red Devils look to complete their first major summer deal.
