The Red Devils are keen to add a new midfielder to their ranks this summer.
Manchester United are reportedly in pole position to complete a move for Chelsea’s Mason Mount.
Back in January, Liverpool and Manchester City were the frontrunners to sign the England international. However, it seems that Man Utd have edged out their rivals in a race to add the 24-year-old to their squad.
According to ESPN, Mount is open to joining United, who have decided to make a formal offer for the midfielder.
The Blues’ efforts to tie down Mount to a new contract have failed in recent months. As Mount enters the final year of his current deal, his suitors have intensified their efforts to sign him on a cut-price deal.
Widespread reports in English media claim Mount’s market value is around £60 million. But Man Utd will most likely be able to sign him for a lower fee due to his contract situation.
Liverpool’s decision to sign Alexis Mac Allister could cool off their interest in Mount. However, the Reds will most likely sign more midfielders this summer.
Arsenal, on the other hand, are pursuing a deal for Declan Rice. But stiff competition from Bayern Munich for the West Ham star could redirect their attention toward signing Mount.
