Manchester United are reportedly hopeful Edinson Cavani can replicate Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s success at Old Trafford following his arrival.

Cavani joined Manchester United on a free transfer after seeing his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expire earlier in the summer.

The Uruguayan is yet to feature for the Red Devils following his deadline-day signing. But, he could make his debut when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side take on Chelsea on Saturday.

After failing to land Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, Solskjaer moved on to snap up Cavani on a short-term deal.

A mandatory two-week quarantine saw the 33-year-old striker skip United’s fixtures against Newcastle United and Paris Saint-Germain.

But, PSG’s all-time top-scorer will be ready to make his first appearance for the Old Trafford outfit when they meet Chelsea in a massive Premier League clash.

Manchester United are hopeful Cavani can have a similar impact to Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Zlatan teamed up with United as a free agent in summer 2016 when his contract with PSG ran out.

Despite moving to the Premier League in the twilight stage of his career, the Swedish striker was a major hit, racking up 28 goals in all competitions.

Cavani, who has been working hard behind the scenes to keep his physical condition at the highest level, can bring a similar experience.

It remains to be seen whether Solskjaer will opt to field his new central forward from the first minute against Chelsea.
