Former Manchester United hero Ryan Giggs has hailed Edinson Cavani as a center-forward the Red Devils have been crying out for over the past couple of years.

Cavani joined Manchester United as a free agent on deadline day after his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expired earlier this summer.

The 33-year-old enjoyed a trophy-laden seven-year stint at the Parc des Princes, becoming PSG’s all-time top-scorer in the process.

His experience and quality should help the relatively inexperienced Manchester United squad improve this term.

Giggs, whose Wales side faced Cavani’s Uruguay back in 2018, believes the striker still has a lot to give in the Premier League.

Despite entering the twilight years, the former Napoli talisman could still make the difference, according to the Dragons boss.

“I faced Cavani in my second game for Wales, and he was better than Luis Suarez actually in the game. I didn’t think he was that good,” Giggs told Webby & O’Neill’s YouTube channel.

“He was a real handful. He hasn’t played for a long time so he might be a little bit rusty.

“But what you’re getting; you’re getting a centre forward, which I think a lot of fans have been crying out for.

“A proper centre-forward who can lead the line. We have Marcus, Martial who is half a winger, half a centre-forward. Cavani is a forward, a target man.

“He’s got the experience. I’m hoping just like Bruno has, he will make the players around him even better.”

Cavani is yet to feature for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side. He was on the sidelines as Manchester United outpowered his former team in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

However, the Uruguayan forward should be in contention for United’s upcoming Premier League showdown against Chelsea at Old Trafford.
