The young forward was arrested last year on accusations of attempted rape, assault and coercive control.
Charges against Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood are dropped, according to Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).
A widely-circulated audio file led to Greenwood’s arrest last year, with the Man Utd forward facing allegations of rape, coercive behaviour and assault.
Investigations began in January 2022, and a trial was set for November 27. However, on Thursday, CPS announced that all charges had been dropped.
“Mason Greenwood was charged in October 2022 with one count of attempted rape, one count of controlling and coercive behaviour and one count of assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” an official statement reads.
“A decision has been made to discontinue prosecution in accordance with the Code of Crown Prosecutors.”
The decision has also been confirmed by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).
Michaela Kerr, GMP’s head of public protection, said: “The investigation team has remained in regular contact with the legal team, providing any updates of note, and so understand the rationale for the discontinuation of proceedings at this stage, and that this decision has not been taken lightly.
“Despite the media and public’s interest in this case, we have decided not to comment on it in any further detail.”
Greenwood has been suspended by Man Utd since the start of the investigations. The 21-year-old last played for the Red Devils in their 1-0 win over West Ham on January 22 last year.
