The English top-flight revealed their highest number of positive diagnoses earlier this week, and the count is only increasing.

Facundo Pellestri has been denied the chance to make his debut with Manchester United after testing positive for coronavirus.

Pellestri was signed on the deadline day of the summer transfer window from Uruguayan side Penarol for a fee of about €10 million

Touted as one for the future, the 19-year-old winger has been playing for United’s U-23 team. He scored two goals and registered an assist in six appearances so far.

He was reportedly in line to play his first senior match for his new team in the FA Cup third-round fixture against Watford on Saturday, but has now started a 10-day quarantine period.

“I think we’ve done well to follow the protocols as we have,” Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said in his pre-match press conference, via MEN. “We’ve had the odd case and Facundo Pellistri got a positive, so he reported that on his Twitter site.

“We don’t normally comment on who they are but Facundo is well and hopefully, he’ll be back with us soon.

“He’s been with the reserves and the 23s and he wasn’t really in our group over Christmas. Apart from that, we have a full and fit squad.”
