A Manchester United legend feels a competitor for Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof and Aaron Wan-Bissaka is what is needed in the team.

Manchester United refuse to give up on landing Jadon Sancho despite their pursuit of him being almost entirely stagnant in the summer so far.

It is understood that Man United have reached an agreement with their top transfer target for quite a while now, but it is Borussia Dortmund’s asking price that is causing complications for the transfer to go through.

The Red Devil’s financial struggles in times of crisis is of no interest to Dortmund, who remain unshakeable on their €118 million (£108m) demand for the very-talented winger.

October 5 is the deadline for the summer transfer window and with the date fast approaching, Dimitar Berbatov has urged his former team to focus on improving other areas in the squad.

Despite the team producing 13 clean sheets last term, the former forward is not totally convinced about Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defense.

Berbatov told Goal: “I think Lindelof is good enough but sometimes he makes unnecessary mistakes where he is out of position, and that is not good for the team.

“That’s why they need someone, not only to push him but also for Maguire as well.

“[Aaron Wan-Bissaka] has had a great season. But who else is pushing him for in that position? You need someone to be there because you are never far away from a bad game or a red card or injuries.”
