A defensive midfielder has raised his stock with some eye-catching performances for England at Euro 2020.

Manchester United have been urged to sign England and Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips by former striker Dimitar Berbatov.

A key figure behind their remarkable defensive display in the tournament, Phillips has shone for England at Euro 2020.

With the 25-year-old playing a crucial role in blocking out the opponents’ attacks, the Three Lions have been able to register a clean sheet in four of their five games, conceding just a single goal so far.

Jadon Sancho was confirmed as Man United’s first signing of this summer, and Berbatov now wants his former club to go after another England star.

“Kalvin Phillips stood out again too [in the 2-1 win over Denmark],” the ex-Man United man told Betfair.

“He’s been one of the players of the tournament and, sooner or later, I expect him to leave Leeds for a bigger club.

“Offers will come in for him after the tournament. He is playing with maturity, agility, knowing when to run with the ball and when to pass.

“I would like to see him sign for Manchester United.”
